Willie Allen Jr., name meaning “Resolute Protector”, was born to Bessie Brinkley Allen and Willie Allen Sr. on November 29th, 1935, in Nash County, North Carolina. He was the seventh child and first to survive to his parents. He was the oldest of 11 children to their union.
Willie was educated in the Nash County School System at Spaulding School. Early in his youth he joined and was baptized at St. Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Willie started off his career as a Farmer before he met the love of his life, Thelma. He knew immediately he wanted a better life for them so they got married December 13, 1954. To this union two sons and one daughter was born. Willie relocated his family to Paterson, NJ in 1963. He worked a host of jobs including but not limited to Knoxol, Sears Roebuck, and Sealy Mattress company. He also started a career at S.B Thomas Bakery of which he spent 30 years and successfully retired. Willie joined the New Christian Missionary Baptist Church where he happily served as an Usher, Security, Food Pantry assistant and anywhere else he was needed.
Willie loved his family, his house, playing the guitar, music, NC State Fair, talking on his CB while on road trips (he referred to himself as “Muffin Man”) and competitive horse racing. He was an all-around people person. He loved to laugh, joke and play with everyone. His slogans and catchphrases would be sure to put a smile on your face…” It looks good on you”.
On December 5th, 2021, God decided that he needed Willie and therefore he called him home. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Children; William “Toot” Allen, Fredric G. Allen Sr., Sisters; Rozena Austin, Doretha Webb, Rosella Evans. Brothers; Johnnie Allen and Rev. Ivey Allen.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 18, 2021, at St. Hope Baptist Church, Spring Hope. A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM prior to the service. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
He leaves to cherish his memory: His Wife of 67 years: Thelma Jones Allen, Daughter: Lillian B. McKenzie (Eric Sr.) Siblings: Velma Richardson, Hoby Allen (Linda) of Spring Hope, NC, Hassel Allen, Sterling “Birdie” Allen (Willie Mae) of Paterson, NJ, Mary “Deeda” Tucker of Cumming, Ga, and Addie Mae Moore of Newark, NJ. Sisters-in-law: Loretta “Pete” Wheless of Knightdale, NC, Mary Jo Allen of Richmond, Va. Daughter-in-law: Jessie “Becky” Allen. Grandchildren: Demont Cuffie (Lamonica), Sharita Riggins (Michael), William Earl Allen, Nicole McCutcheon (Lamar), Fredric Allen Jr., Alicia Allen-Gant (Edward), Edward “EJ” McKenzie, Eric McKenzie Jr., Elijah McKenzie, and Justin Allen. 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Willie was adored by a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and Friends.
