Sylvia Grady Witter Obituary

Sylvia Grady Witter was born November 02, 1949 in Nash County, Spring Hope, NC; the oldest child born to the late Frances Grady and William (Mutt) Deans. Reared by her late grandmother Althaus Grady and Wille Grady, grandfather.

She attended Spaulding High School in Spring Hope, NC, graduating in the class of 1968. Sylvia accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age and joined Saint Steven Missionary Baptist Church where she served in the Choir, Vacation Bible School, and other church activities. She migrated to New Jersey after High School, where she started a career at Orange Memorial Hospital for more than 15 years. After retirement, Sylvia worked as an In-Home Health care assistant for the elderly. How she loved her clients. “Goin’ shopping” was a favorite pastime for Sylvia. She enjoyed cruising flea markets for antiques and loved the song: Ain’t nothing due but the rent’. There was not a time when anything was out of place when she was out and about. Oh how she loved to dress. She was a sharp dresser and always looked good from head to toe.

She enjoyed visiting her family and friends and the Spaulding Reunion each year. She especially enjoyed fellowshipping with her best friend (Linda Gray) and family. Sylvia was an extremely outgoing person and greeted everyone with a genuine smile. Sylvia was preceded in death by her father, William Deans, mother, Frances Grady, one sister Angelina Benjamin.

She leaves to cherish her memories a loving and devoted husband for 32 years, Joseph Witter of NJ; one son, Abdul-Shabazz Ashanti (Derrick Grady) of NJ; three brothers, William Gresham, Reginald Gresham, and Anthony Beverly all of MD; four sisters, Karen Malloy of GA, Apostle Marchell Franklin (Donald Joyner) of NC. Melody Grady and Juanne Jefferson both of MD; one aunt, Odessa Weaver of NC . A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Love to Linda Dunn of NC; George Uzziel of NC and Caston Lambert of NJ (friend of Joseph).
