Serving Our Community Since 1964
William Toney's Funeral Home, Inc. opened in January 1964 at its present location of Poplar Street in Spring Hope. William (Tom) Toney was the first owner and operator of Toney's Funeral Home, but the time is not known. We assume it was in the early 1900's. His son Jenklin D. (Jack) Toney built the first funeral home in Pine Street in Spring Hope in the 1920's. After his demise in 1962, William T. Toney, Jenklin's son continued to operate the business and in January 1964, he built the present establishment under the name of William Toney's Funeral Home. In 1969, the Funeral Home Building was erected in Zebulon, NC for the purpose of viewings, wakes and funerals and the collection of Burial and Life Insurances in the Zebulon and Wendell area. It was called William Toney's Funeral Chapel. William T. Toney was the sole licensed funeral director and embalmer for many years. As time passed, the growth in business necessitated hiring an additional Embalmer/Funeral Director as the small family business was outgrowing its family.
In 1984, we were incorporated with William T. Toney as President and Helen M. Toney, Williams wife as Secretary-Treasurer. Jennis S. Toney, daughter, returned from college in 1983 and began working as Secretary and Funeral Director, gradually working into a managerial position. William T. Toney, Jr, son, joined the staff in 1996.
